Stanford Women in Business (SWIB) was co-founded in the Fall of 2005 by four Stanford undergraduate women. Inspired by a businesswomen’s panel that contained incredibly meaningful – and yet often disregarded – lessons for women, the Executive Board set out to bring new perspectives and opportunities to Stanford’s pre-professional scene. While approved to be a student group in winter of 2006, Stanford Women in Business celebrates is first official full year in 2006-2007. Energetic leadership in the 2006-2007 Academic year led to a period of incredible growth and activity for Stanford Women in Business.

Over the summer of 2006, Stanford Women in Business underwent an extreme review of its purpose, vision, and strategy as an organization serving the women and greater Stanford Community. Out of those discussions came the current vision of Stanford Women in Business. The strategy behind Stanford Women in Business programs and events serve this two-fold mission: to build a foundation in business and to create a community.

Stanford Women in Business observed the typical "independent entity" behavior of other student organizations and wanted to create a precedent for collaboration with other student groups. With the idea to plan the first FREE student-initiated Introductory Business Conference, Stanford Women in Business enlisted the support of 10 other Pre-Professional Organizations. Stanford Women in Business spearheaded the organization and planning of the event. This was the first event to unite all the Pre-Professional Groups on the Stanford Campus, and Stanford Women in Business is committed to planning more collaborative events in the future.

In the 2006-2007 academic school year Stanford Women in Business exploded from having little presence on campus to nearly 400 members on the mailing list; from 2 small events to 15 events and a conference.

Now, Stanford Women in Business holds over 25 events every year, hosts 2 annual conferences in Winter and Spring, provides Mentorship and Springternship programs, and connects businesswomen for Philanthropy projects related to women’s rights and education. Each year, new leadership brings innovation and growth to Stanford Women in Business, building upon that same core vision established in the summer of 2006.
